What Is Vehicle Driveline Service and Why Is It Important?

The driveline in your vehicle is responsible for making sure that your vehicle distributes power to both the front and rear axles when road conditions demand it. The driveline is made up of the following components:

  • axles
  • driveshaft
  • wheels
  • joints
  • differentials

The combined effort of these components handles the force of your vehicle. The type of driveline service required by your vehicle depends on whether your vehicle is front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, or four-wheel drive.

What Is Driveline Service?

The gear oil inside the differential lubricates and transfers away heat. This oil helps to protect internal components. Extreme temperatures and severe driving conditions can break down the fluid and cause issues with your vehicle. Regular driveline service can help with the following issues:

  • Protect against undue wear or failure
  • Reduce gear noises
  • Reduce slippage
  • Remove contaminants and debris

A driveline service expert will extract the old gear oil from the differential case using a specialized fluid exchanger. The fluid exchanger is powered by compressed air and is capable of quickly removing fluids from the vehicle. Then, MOC’s premium synthetic gear oil is added to the differential to provide superior performance and protection. Additives may be added, depending on the type of vehicle you have. It is recommended that vehicles have their driveline serviced every 30,000 miles under standard conditions.
